Connect MercadoPago so you can sell
Argentine stores sell in pesos and connect MercadoPago instead of Stripe — everything else about selling here works the same. Buyers pay your own MercadoPago account directly. We never hold your money, so before anything can be sold, MercadoPago has to confirm your account can receive payments.
- 1Open Payments in the dashboard and press Connect MercadoPago. This requires a paid plan, because the free plan does not sell.
- 2You are sent to MercadoPago’s own site to authorize the connection. You need a MercadoPago account that can receive money in Argentina — a CUIT or DNI and a local bank account — and that verification is MercadoPago’s to do, not ours.
- 3Come back to the dashboard. The Payments page reflects your connection and updates itself as MercadoPago confirms things.
Authorizing MercadoPago gives us permission to create a checkout on your behalf when someone buys — nothing more. The money never passes through us: MercadoPago pays it straight into your account, and we take 0% of it.
The authorization MercadoPago gives us does not last forever. We renew it automatically in the background, well before it is due to expire, so most of the time you will never notice. If a renewal ever does fail, you get one email about it, and the fix is the same reconnect button on the Payments page — not a support ticket.
“Ready” means the connection works right now and your buy button is live. When it is not, the Payments page says what is wrong and shows that reconnect button — whether this is your first connection or an earlier authorization died and needs to be redone.
Buyers pay through MercadoPago’s own checkout page, in pesos — we never see their card details. Refunds work the same way as everywhere else here: issue one from the order in your dashboard, and it goes back out through MercadoPago.
